Oilers take early lead in Stanley Cup Final
The Edmonton Oilers took an early lead in the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night, defeating the Florida Panthers 3-0 in Game 1 at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
Connor McDavid scored two goals for the Oilers, while Leon Draisaitl added an empty-net goal. Mike Smith made 31 saves for the shutout.
The Panthers had a few chances to score in the first period, but Smith was there to make the saves. The Oilers took the lead late in the period when McDavid scored on a power play.
The Oilers extended their lead in the second period when Draisaitl scored on a breakaway. McDavid added his second goal of the game in the third period to seal the victory.
The Panthers will look to even the series when they host the Oilers in Game 2 on Monday night.
